The better your original sound quality, the better your ringtone will sound. Uncompressed audio (like songs straight from a CD or sounds you've recorded) will sound better than compressed audio such as MP3 or WMA, for example.

Xingtone Ringtone Maker™ (XRM) does not work with rights-managed files such as files you purchased from the iTunes™ store, Rhapsody™, Napster™ or others. XRM does not recognize playlists in Music Match™ or other player software. The PC version does not recognize AAC / M4A files created in iTunes. You can use songs you created using iTunes by exporting them and re-importing them as MP3 files. Complete instructions are available in iTunes help.

Load your track.
In the Xingtone Ringtone Maker browser window, select the song you want from a CD or a location on your computer and load it into the application by double clicking on it. You may also choose your file by going to FILE >> OPEN from the menu and browsing your computer. Double-click on the file to open it. It may take a few seconds to load.
You can listen to the track by clicking on the PLAY button.
Trim your selection.
• Drag your mouse through the section of the track you want to select as your ringtone clip. TRIM any part of the song you want to make into a ringtone by clicking on the TRIM button (razor blade).
• Finished ringtone clips should be less than 30 seconds. Some phones have specific file limitations that may further limit your ringtone length. You can see the length of your ringtone in the Ringtone Clip Information area. It's the text you see just above the Ringtone Editing Window.
• Preview your selection by pressing PLAY.
Fine-tune your clip.
• Click on EASY/ ADVANCED to see the full range of editing tools.
• Use the ADVANCED editing features to customize your ringtone:
You can undo and redo; zoom in and zoom out on the wav file; normalize the sound; record your voice, your child's voice, spouse's voice...even the dog barking! You can fade in and fade out, and make the sound louder or softer.
Send to your phone.
Once your track sounds the way you want, click the SEND button. Check the status window for information. You'll get a text message on your phone in a few moments. Follow the link per the instructions to save it on your phone and assign it as a ringtone. Look at the Help / Info screen on your application to see specific instructions for saving the ringtone on your phone model.
