I receive the error "acmStreamOpen failed code 512"
This is generally caused by using Xingtone 5.0 or earlier on a Windows Vista computer. You will need to download our latest version of Xingtone (5.1) from our website here.
*This error can potentially be caused by not having a phone selected in the OPTIONS/SETTINGS as well, but that is very rare.
I have Windows Vista
Please download the Vista Compatible version of Xingtone Ringtone Maker here.
MobileMedia Share is not compatible with Windows Vista. We are currently working on a Vista-compatible version. You will not be able to take advantage of sharing recorded ringtones and images with your friends.
Fatal Application Error (xp/vista)
Your windows registry has become corrupt (not as bad as it sounds.)
1. Uninstall Xingtone.
2. Delete the xingtone folder from program files (vista users - also delete the xingtone folder found in your USERS folder
3. Follow these directions:
Click Start Menu
- Select 'Run'
- Type in 'regedit'
- Follow the path to: My Computer/HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software
- Click on the "Xingtone" folder under "Software"
- Press "delete" and confirm "Yes" |
4. Re-install xingtone.
That should be the fix for you regarding the Fatal App error.
I'm getting a "Server busy" error
This happens for 2 reasons:
1. If you see "Please check your phone" before the Server Busy error and you do not get the text message,
the application has timed out. The links expire after a certain amount of time. Try resending it to yourself again. If you see "Please check your phone"
again and do not get the text message, check your settings and make sure your phone number and carrier are correct.
2. If you do not get "Please check your phone" and immediately receive "Server Busy," something is blocking your
computer from contacting the Xingtone servers. Shut down all your firewall/anti-virus/security software and any firewalls on your router and ISP.
If you're at work and behind a corporate firewall, then please try it at home where you can control the firewalls.
I'm getting a "Phone Number/Serial Pair Invalid" error
Please double check if your serial number is entered correctly.
See How do I edit my Settings?
- Note that if your serial number starts with the letters P and
I, that it is not to be mistaken for the letter P and the number
1 (one).
- Also if your serial number starts with the letters O and V,
it is not to be mistaken for the number 0 (zero) and the letter
V.
It is possible that your phone number has not been entered correctly
and/ or differently at the time of purchase. If you still
have problems, please contact support
to ensure that all information is matching.
Ringtone not reaching phone/
Something is blocking internet access
Something is blocking the internet signal Xingtone needs to send.
It could be the Windows built in firewall, a third party firewall,
antivirus software or some other program. Check your settings on
any of these applications to allow Xingtone to connect to the Internet.
I disabled my firewall and
I still can't connect
Please check any software or hardware applications that might be
preventing the Xingtone from conecting to the internet. Windows
XP has its own firewall, or a network card might also have a firewall
enabled.
I can't download the software
or I get an error message when I install/use the application that
the file “mscvcr71.dll” is not found and/or “the
file type is not compatible" and I need to download a plug
in.
If you have not done so already, please install the latest version
of Microsoft Windows Media Player (version 9.0 or higher) . Uninstall
Xingtone, then download a new version from below. Then re-install.

You also may have a problem with your firewall. Please see:

Conversion Failed (please use a smaller clip)
This error occurs when two things have either happened.
1. The conversion failed - thus try it again.
2. A phone has been changed, updated, add, removed, from our database, therefore the phone origally selected in Xingtone has changed (or become blank.) Make sure you have a proper phone selected in the Options/Settings of Xingtone
Why can't I see my
songs in my iTunes music folder?
Xingtone does not see AAC / M4A files on the PC, although it does
on the Mac. Xingtone does not work with files that are digital rights-protected
(DRM) files, and this means that songs you purchased from the iTunes
store will not work with Xingtone. On the PC, you will need to convert
your AAC files into MP3. Your iTunes help files explain how to do
this.
I can't get the software
to run.
On a PC, the program downloads as a .zip file to your desktop,
so once you find xingtone.zip, you need to unzip it with a free
utility such as WinZip. Usually, you can just right click on it
and "Extract All". Then run the corresponding setup program.
On a Mac, the program downloads as a .dmg Disk Image File. If you double-click it, you will get another Volume
on your computer and inside that volume is the installer .pkg file.
Known problems with IE7 Beta
Page Error Message with Internet Explorer 7
Beta
Because of the new security issues with IE7 Beta, Xingtone will
occasionally give you page cannot be found error messages on the
PC. We are currently working on a fix for this. This error will
not affect the functionality of Xingtone and will not prevent you
from downloading ringtones.
This only affects the right window of the application where additional
helpful links reside. If you would like to see the additional links,
please follow these steps:
1. Click OK on the error message
2. Select OPTIONS -> SETTINGS
3. Click OK to close out of the options menu
Can I use a data-cable to transfer tones with Xingtone?
At this time that is not an option. We keep this option on the list for the future, but there are many legal hoops to jump through for us to open this up on our software.
Data server error/ Proxy error/Data server unavailable.
Data Server errors are generally related to connectivity problems
between cell/towers and your provider. Make sure you have strong
signals and aren't sending during peak tower traffic in your area.
Also - Users have reported receiving the Data Server Unavailable error when a firewall on their router itself is blocking the xingtone signals. We recommend disabling the firewall on the router (and/or authorizing it to allow xingtone to pass through.)
I am a verizon user, and when I press SEND xingtone just stays on UPLOADING...
While Verizon is one of the more easier carriers to use with Xingtone, it's all the trickiest because it relies on outside email SMTP/Servers that are beyond our control. If your xingtone sits on uploading, it's because either the internet connection is slow, the file is large, and/or the audio file being sent is getting stuck in the email server - (think as if you were sending an email with a large attachment) - the best way to avoid this is to use a smaller file...maybe 5 seconds, just to get the tone through and then proceed to get larger from there. Unfortunately there is nothing Xingtone can do to help this along, it's strictly based on the SMTP/email server as well as network and internet connection.
Invalid Installation Error...
This error can occur if you aren't running xingtone as the administrator on a PC and/or you haven't RUN xingtone.exe as the administrator. A solution would be to run as the administrator. Another would be to attempt to NOT put in your proper information during the start up registration screen, and to try to put your info in once Xingtone loads (inside Options---Settings.)

Check if your information in the "Settings Menu" is entered
correctly. See How do I edit my Settings?
If the information is the "Settings Menu" is entered
correctly, then this is usually an error of trying to send a ringtone
that exceeds the available memory in your phone. Try resending
a smaller clip, no more than 5 seconds in length and see if that
works. Gradually work your way up to a larger ringtone, and
be sure and delete any unused tones on your phone to free up memory.
My phone is not listed!
We try to do the best we can to have the most up to date phones available! Occationally a new phone slips through, we haven't tested, or maybe you imported your phone from Europe. Whatever the case may be, we've made it even easier to get your phone added to the supported phones list. Go here for more information!
Gateway - Apache Port 80 Error
1. The ringtone you are trying to send is too large for your phone. Try sending yourself a 5 second ringtone first to see if that will download.
2. You are trying to access the same ringtone in one text message. Each text message contains a ringtone that is only accessible one time, whether it's successful or not. So you will need to send a new text message if one did not successfully download the first time. Make sure to delete all your text messages before sending a new one to be safe.
My phone number is incorrect
Make sure all your user information is correct. Check your
settings. See How do I edit my Settings?
If you entered your phone number incorrectly, you can change it
one time. Click here
to change your number.
Do I need internet on my phone?
Yes! You need internet connection on your mobile phone as
you will have to download the ringtone after clicking on the link.
You should be able to add that to your calling plan pretty easily.
I'm not receiving a text message/my ringtone.
Please confirm:
- You selected your phone carrier in the Xingtone application
settings
- You entered your phone number correctly
- You have text messaging and data services (internet) enabled
for your phone.
Additionally, depending on the time of the day, your carrier might
be slow delivering a text message – so please be patient.
AT&T/CINGULAR - Since these two networks merged, they've swithed names twice, switched Text routing numerous times and all in all have caused a lot of issues resulting mostly in ringtones being sent, but no text messages arriving - this is typically due to the text messages being routed to the wrong address. If you are a Cingular/AT&T user and are sending your tones, but they are not arriving (i.e. it says "check your phone" and eventually reads "server busy" in the top right corner of xingtone) then this is what you should try regardless of what carrier you *think* you're on, or what your bills say, etc.
Go into Xingtone OPTIONS -- SETTINGS.
Change your carrier to AT&T and send a tone. If it works, great, if not try:
CINGULAR-
AT&T2
JYOW
In that order. If it doesn't work beyond that, then shoot us a support email.
I'm sending a ringtone, the
application says ‘network connect’ but then nothing
happens.
Please check any software or hardware applications that might be
preventing the Xingtone from conecting to the internet. Windows
XP has its own firewall, or a network card might also have a firewall
enabled.
Make sure the settings in the Settings Menu are entered correctly.
See How do I edit my Settings?
I'm getting "Page not available"
on my cell phone.
Make sure that you have the correct carrier and phone model selected
in the "settings menu". See How do
I edit my Settings?
You can find the model information on the inside of your
phone's battery.
Make sure that the Internet Access on your phone is fully enabled.
Contact your carrier to enasure that this is a part of your current
plan. You should be able to type any URL adress into your
phone's browser and connect, if it is indeed fully enabled, for
example, www.google.com.
After testing above, this error may result from a temporary connectivity
problem between your cell phone and your provider's tower.
You may want to try again later.
Finally, this may be an error of attempting to send a ringtone that
exceeds the available memory in your phone. Please try sending a
smaller clip at first; make sure that you click on the trim button
("razor blade") before sending the highlighted clip that
you have made, even if your phone might be able to handle more.
Start with a 5 second clip, trim the file and send. Once you've
successfully sent the file, gradually work your way up to a larger
ringtone.
What is a "Handler" (Sprint).
Some of the latest model phones from Sprint are designed in such a way that they are not very friendly to outside, 3rd party audio content. Sometimes you can hear, but not save - and other times you can hear, save, but not set as a ringtone. This is most likely Sprint's attempt to force a user to purchase ringtones through them instead of making their own. As of now, we have no work arounds for this error, so if you are receiving it, there's not much we can do as of now, although we are always working to find a loophole around this error.
My ringtone doesn't sound
very good.
The sound quality will primarily depend on the quality of the source
audio file. In general, uncompressed audio files such as WAV or
CDA (from an audio CD) will sound better than compressed (mp3, WMA,
etc). The quality is also directly related to the quality
of the phone’s speaker. Newer phones will sound better.
See suggestions on making better
ringtones.
Network unavailable/not available (cingular users)
This is a rare, but possible error when you're mobile internet service is temporarily out of order. Even though you have a phone signal and possible internet connectivity, it's not fully up to speed. Usually given a matter of time, this error will resolve itself, but it's strictly a Cingular issue.
I lost my Serial
Number. How do I find found out my serial number?

I have
Verizon
(I am receiving an error message to check my SMTP info.)
1. To download ringtones, you must have Verizon's picture
messaging enabled.
2. Verizon does offer unlimited picture messaging subscriptions
for a small monthly fee. If you don't subscribe, Verizon will charge
you $0.25 per message. To download one ringtone, you receive one
picture message.
3. Email Setup
[Xingtone's software requires email information to support
Verizon phones. Although the software needs this information,
Xingtone, the company, does not gain access to it, as it only resides
on your local computer .]
Verizon customers must complete the following form. There's a table
below with a light yellow background that has some examples of information
you can use to complete this form:

You will need to have an email account to use Verizon with Xingtone.
We have not tested every email company -but we have had great success with free AOL email accounts.. Hotmail and
Yahoo will only work if you are a paying subscriber. Gmail
will not work. However, AOL and AIM work properly at no charge - although recently we've seen AIM to be problematic, so thus we recommend AOL.
XINGTONE DOES NOT STORE ANY INFORMATION
ABOUT YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS. ALL INFORMATION IS KEPT ON YOUR
COMPUTER AND XINGTONE NEVER ACCESSES THIS DATA.
For other email providers (that do not require an encrypted connection
or SSL) look at the settings for Outlook and use them to complete
the above Email Settings Form.

How do I record?
Make sure you have your sound card and sound card drivers installed. Then plug in your microphone. Select the “Ringtone Maker” Tab in the application. Press the “Record” Button to start recording and then press the “Stop” button when you have finished your recording.
Why is the application not recording?
Check to see if your sound card and sound card drivers are installed and working properly. Check to see if your microphone is connected. Also check to make sure your “Microphone/Line in” are not muted on your computer’s Sound settings.
Why is the application not opening my image?
The application will only open BMP, GIF, JPG, PNG images.
Why have I not received a text message?
Sometimes it takes awhile to receive text messages because of carriers’ network congestion. If you are sending during peak times for carriers, it will sometimes take longer for the carrier to send text messages through. Also check your signal strength on your phone. Make sure you have good signal strength or your phone may not receive the message until you have a good signal. If you are sending during non-peak times and you have good signal strength, check with your carrier to make sure you have text messaging enabled. If you have text messaging enabled, go back to the “Getting Started” tab and make sure your phone information is correct.
How do I change who receives the ringtone or wallpaper?
Go back to the “Getting Started” Tab. Change the “Recipient Info” information to who you want to receive the ringtone/wallpaper. Press the “Update” Button after you have filled out the information. Create your ringtone/wallpaper and it will now send to the new recipient.
Can I send a ringtone or wallpaper to Multiple Buddies at the same time?
Not currently. This feature will be available in Version 5.0 of Xingtone’s Mobile MediaShare.
